​This is an exciting new role with wide ranging responsibilities that requires an experienced Estates/Facilities Manager with a proven track record to manage and cost effectively maintain and strategically develop the Estate. A key requirement of the role is to ensure compliance with Health and Safety Policy. The Estate presents challenges with a variety of buildings, including some listed buildings, spread across a large area of parkland.

A professional Building or Surveying qualification for the role is necessary and a NEBOSH or IOSH qualification would also be welcome. Experience gained within an education environment would be beneficial.

Specific areas of responsibility:

  • Regular inspections of the Estate and grounds

  • Development and maintenance of a five/ten year rolling plan. This is to be a live document to show estimated costs for the planned work and is to be regularly reviewed with implementation agreed with the Board.

  • Design and delivery of small to medium capital projects and assistance in the management of larger projects.

  • The preparation and submission of planning applications and liaising with external advisers as necessary

  • Compliance with local authority requirements

  • Management and safety of on-site contractors

  • Monitoring the maintenance of the utility infrastructure of the Estate

  • Performance within agreed budgets. Provision of information for cashflows and budgets.

  • A commitment to operational excellence with a clear vision to develop the future potential

  • Balancing day to day management of the Estate and grounds with long term strategy

  • The procurement of contractors for onsite work in conjunction with the Estates’ Procurement Function to include the preparation and review of risk assessments, method statements and the sign off of work on completion.

  • To have responsibility for the management of all health and safety, cleaning, building and plant maintenance and planning for refurbishment programmes.


  • Upkeep of all Estate buildings

  • Work closely with the in-house maintenance team

Health and Safety

  • Managing and attending Health and Safety Meetings ensuring that actions are followed up promptly to required and agreed timescales

  • Ensuring the security of all Estate buildings and property, the proper operation of the Estates’ CCTV systems and compliance with regulations.

  • Effective management of Health and Safety throughout the Estate to ensure compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act and the Estates’ Health and Safety Policy

  • Annual review of the Health and Safety Policy

  • Accident Management/Monitoring of accidents

  • Proactively review the Estates’ risk register and ensure that it is kept up to date

  • Carry out a full review of access to Estate buildings and key holders.


  • Planning effective cleaning schedules throughout the entire estate

  • Reviewing costs related to cleaning and building effective relationships with suppliers working via the Estates’ Procurement Processes


  • Supervision of the Grounds staff to ensure the upkeep of the grounds, gardens, roadways and paths on all Estate owned premises and to ensure that the sports grounds are fit for purpose in conjunction with the Heads of Sport


  • Recruitment and management of the cleaning, maintenance and caretaking staff and undertaking objective performance appraisals

  • Motivating and empowering teams to ensure goals are met to the standards required

  • Effective delegation of suitable tasks

  • Providing clear leadership to all staff within the Estates Team

  • Attendance at Governor meetings as required


  • Commitment to personal learning and development

  • Clean driving licence

  • Hands on approach to achieving team goals

  • Availability to work additional hours that may be necessary to fulfil the role
