Director/Associate of Rating

The Client

Our client is a well-established national property consultancy and their Rating Advisory Team has an immediate position in their London office for a General Practice Surveyor up to Director Level with at least 5 years direct experience in Business Rates.

The Role

The role is to advise on predominantly commercial property in the South and South West of England with key responsibilities being:

  • Maintain client relationships and act as the key liaison with clients on specific projects
  • Support the team business plan to continually develop the client portfolio
  • Ensure professional advice is provided thoroughly, accurately and within set deadlines
  • Deliver activities and projects within client expectations
  • Work collaboratively to generate new instructions and pool expertise within the team
  • Support the team profile in the market
  • Develop internal and external network for business pipeline/opportunities.
  • Consult internally and externally to help identify optimum solutions for clients
  • Identify potential cross-selling opportunities
  • Contribute to meeting overall departmental fee/billing target
  • Keep personal knowledge of relevant case law up to date
  • Proactively seek and undertake the job and formal developmental activities to broaden experience and knowledge
  • Identify optimum Rates Liability savings for clients
  • To negotiate with the Valuation Office Agency within timescales and in accordance with Quality Assurance procedures

Skills and Experience

  • Experience in dealing with Business Rate Appeals from start to finish, including experience in taking appeals to Valuation Tribunal
  • In depth knowledge of commercial markets, across the UK
  • Well-developed understanding of commercial property, ranging from building construction to asset management with relevant practical experience
  • Strong negotiation skills and understanding of the acquisition and conveyancing processes
  • Commercially astute and have an understanding of tax regulations
  • Good attention to detail, with a strong numerical and written ability
  • Strong client following
  • Good working knowledge of Rating IT systems e.g. Riverlake & Analyse
  • Ability to react to the proposed changes to Business Rate Appeals for the 2017 revaluation
  • Able to write clear, concise reports with well-argued conclusions & recommendations
  • Target driven and able to work at pace
  • MRICS/FRICS Qualified
  • Full UK Driving License
