The Client

Our client is a well-established national property consultancy and their Rating Advisory Team has an immediate position in their London office for an MRICS Qualified Rating Surveyor - Senior or Associate level - with at least 3 years direct experience in Business Rates. This is an excellent opportunity to join an expanding team and organisation a with career path towards Head of Department.

The Role

The role is to advise on predominantly commercial property in the South, South West and Midlands of England with key responsibilities being:

  • Maintain client relationships and act as the key liaison with clients on specific projects
  • Support the team business plan to continually develop the client portfolio
  • Ensure professional advice is provided thoroughly, accurately and within set deadlines
  • Deliver activities and projects within client expectations
  • Work collaboratively to generate new instructions and pool expertise within the team
  • Support the team profile in the market
  • Develop internal and external network for business pipeline/opportunities.
  • Consult internally and externally to help identify optimum solutions for clients
  • Identify potential cross-selling opportunities
  • Contribute to meeting overall departmental fee/billing target
  • Keep personal knowledge of relevant case law up to date
  • Proactively seek and undertake the job and formal developmental activities to broaden experience and knowledge
  • Identify optimum Rates Liability savings for clients
  • To negotiate with the Valuation Office Agency within timescales and in accordance with Quality Assurance procedures

Skills and Experience

  • Experience in dealing with Business Rate Appeals from start to finish, including experience in taking appeals to Valuation Tribunal
  • In depth knowledge of commercial property markets
  • Strong negotiation skills and understanding of the acquisition and conveyancing processes
  • Good attention to detail, with a strong numerical and written ability
  • Good working knowledge of Rating IT systems e.g. Riverlake & Analyse
  • Ability to react to the proposed changes to Business Rate Appeals for the 2017 revaluation
  • Able to write clear, concise reports with well-argued conclusions & recommendations
  • Target driven and able to work at pace
  • MRICS Qualified
  • Full UK Driving License
