About the Role

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Director to join and help lead a well-established, independent engineering consultancy in Manchester. This is a key leadership position within a nationally recognised business, offering the chance to shape regional strategy, drive growth, and play a central role in delivering complex and high-profile projects across the UK.

The business is widely respected for its collaborative, people-focused culture and technical excellence across the built environment. With a strong presence across the UK and Ireland, it delivers innovative structural and civil engineering solutions across sectors including residential, healthcare, education, infrastructure, and regeneration. Operating under an employee-owned model, the organisation places real emphasis on long-term thinking, shared success, and empowering its people.

This role would suit an experienced Associate Director or Director with a strong consultancy background, a proven ability to win work, and a track record of leading and developing high-performing teams.

The Role

Working closely with the wider UK leadership team, you will contribute to both regional and national objectives. The position blends business development, technical leadership, team growth, and commercial responsibility.

You will play a key role in strengthening existing client relationships, securing new opportunities, and ensuring the successful delivery of projects across a diverse portfolio, with a particular focus on the private sector.

A core aspect of the role is work winning. You will be expected to generate new business, build and maintain strong client relationships, and contribute to bids and strategic growth plans across the region. The role requires a personable, client-facing individual who is well connected within the North West market, with the credibility and network to open doors and develop long-term partnerships.

You will also collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams across the business, promoting integrated design solutions and enhancing the consultancy’s presence across the region.

About You

You will be an experienced engineer operating at Associate Director or Director level within a consultancy environment. You will bring a strong blend of technical expertise, commercial awareness, and leadership capability.

You are likely to be Chartered (MIStructE or MICE) and will have a proven track record in delivering complex projects and developing client relationships. Just as importantly, you will be a natural relationship builder and work winner, confident in front of clients and comfortable leading business development activity.

An established network across the North West and the ability to convert relationships into tangible opportunities will be key to your success. You will also demonstrate strong leadership qualities, with the ability to inspire teams, represent the business externally, and foster a positive and high-performing internal culture.

Why Apply

This is a rare opportunity to join a progressive, design-led consultancy that genuinely invests in its people. You will have the autonomy to shape and grow the Manchester office, influence strategy at a senior level, and make a meaningful impact within a business that values both its people and its projects.
