About the Role
The Opportunity
This is a senior leadership opportunity for an experienced Rating Surveyor – at Director or Snr. Associate Director level - to play a pivotal role in the continued growth and development of a global, market-leading Rating Consultancy.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Head of Rating, helping to drive business growth, strengthen client relationships, increase market share, and further enhance the firm's already excellent reputation across the UK property sector.
The role offers significant autonomy, responsibility, and the opportunity to work on a wide range of high-profile instructions for investors, occupiers, landlords, developers, and institutional clients.
The Role
You will lead complex rating instructions across a diverse range of commercial property sectors, whilst also taking responsibility for business development, client relationship management, team leadership, and strategic growth initiatives, and key responsibilities will include:
Professional Responsibilities
- Leading complex business rates instructions across commercial, industrial, retail, logistics, and mixed-use property portfolios.
- Advising clients on rating assessments, valuations, appeals, reliefs, and exemptions.
- Developing strategic rating solutions designed to minimise liabilities whilst ensuring full compliance with legislation.
- Representing clients in negotiations with the Valuation Office Agency (VOA).
- Managing Check, Challenge, Appeal (CCA) cases from inception through to conclusion.
- Preparing and reviewing valuation evidence in support of rating appeals.
- Undertaking portfolio reviews, audits, and strategic rating advice.
- Providing expert witness support where required.
Business Development & Client Management
- Identifying and securing new business opportunities across London and the wider UK market.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with investors, occupiers, landlords, developers, and professional advisers.
- Leading client presentations, proposals, and pitches.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues across agency, valuation, investment, and property management disciplines to maximise cross-selling opportunities.
- Contributing to the continued growth and profitability of the business.
Leadership & Team Development
- Leading, mentoring, and developing a team of surveyors and rating specialists.
- Driving performance, productivity, and revenue generation.
- Supporting recruitment, succession planning, and talent development initiatives.
- Promoting a collaborative, high-performance culture across the team.
About You - Essential Requirements
- MRICS or FRICS qualified.
- Significant experience within UK business rates and rating consultancy.
- In-depth understanding of the UK rating system and VOA processes.
- Proven track record of managing and developing high-value client relationships.
- Demonstrable success in winning, retaining, and delivering profitable business.
- Strong commercial awareness and business development skills.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and presentation abilities.
- Experience managing, mentoring, and developing teams.
- An established network within the London commercial property market and a strong profile within the rating profession.
Desirable
- Previous expert witness experience.
- Experience leading major portfolio instructions for institutional and corporate clients.
