About the Role

The Opportunity

We are a well-established and growing quantity surveying practice in Shropshire, expanding due to continued project success and increasing client demand. You will work closely with an experienced QS, gaining hands-on exposure across the full project lifecycle and playing a key role in delivering high-quality commercial advice.

This is a role for someone with gumption — practical, proactive, commercially aware, and confident enough to take ownership.

We welcome applications from individuals with a consultancy or contractor background. You do not need to be on the MRICS pathway to be considered — commercial experience and capability are just as important.

Key Responsibilities

Core Quantity Surveying / Cost Management

  • Preparation of Bills of Quantities (including measurement and take-offs).
  • Cost planning, estimating, and preparation of tender documentation.
  • Supporting both pre- and post-contract cost management activities.
  • Reviewing drawings and specifications to understand scope, risk, and value opportunities.

Procurement & Tender Analysis

  • Advising on and analysing different procurement routes (Traditional, Design & Build, Two-Stage, etc.).
  • Managing tender processes and documentation.
  • Carrying out tender analysis and preparing recommendation reports.
  • Supporting contractor and consultant appointments.

Commercial & Project Support

  • Assisting with valuations, variations, cost reporting, and change control.
  • Supporting final account negotiations and project close-out.
  • Contributing to clear, concise commercial reporting to clients.

Additional Advantage (Not Essential)

  • Experience in M&E, infrastructure, or utilities projects would be beneficial, but is not essential.

About You

Essential

  • Experience in a Quantity Surveying role (consultancy or contractor side).
  • Competent in producing BoQs and undertaking measurement.
  • Strong commercial awareness and understanding of procurement.
  • Confident communicator, able to engage with clients, contractors, and consultants.
  • Organised, detail-oriented, and capable of managing responsibilities independently.

The “Gumption” Factor

  • Proactive and solutions-focused.
  • Takes ownership and follows tasks through to completion.
  • Practical, commercially minded, and comfortable working in a growing business environment.
  • Keen to contribute to the continued success and reputation of the practice.

Desirable

  • MRICS qualified or working toward chartership (not essential).
  • Experience across a variety of sectors.
  • Familiarity with standard forms of contract (e.g., JCT, NEC).

What’s On Offer

  • The opportunity to join a growing and respected practice with strong future prospects.
  • Close mentorship and support from an experienced QS.
  • Broad project exposure and genuine progression opportunities.
  • Competitive salary (dependent on experience) + benefits.
  • Flexible and supportive working environment.
