About the Role

The Opportunity

Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of secured and repeat business, this well-established Shropshire-based consultancy is looking to appoint a Senior Estimator / Quantity Surveyor to strengthen its team.

This is a key appointment within a growing practice, offering real progression opportunities for someone who wants to take ownership, influence projects from pre-construction through to completion, and play a visible role in the continued success of the business.

We are open to candidates from either a consultancy or contractor background, provided you have solid experience in tendering work packages and a strong commercial mindset.

Building services experience would be advantageous, but is not essential

The Role

This position combines pre-construction estimating expertise with broader quantity surveying responsibilities across the project lifecycle.

Pre-Construction & Estimating

  • Preparing detailed cost estimates and cost plans
  • Tendering and pricing work packages
  • Undertaking measurement and take-offs
  • Reviewing drawings and specifications to identify scope, risk and value opportunities
  • Supporting procurement strategy and contractor selection
  • Preparing tender documentation and analysing returned tenders
  • Producing tender reports and recommendations

Commercial & Project Delivery

  • Supporting pre- and post-contract cost management
  • Managing valuations, variations and change control
  • Producing accurate cost reporting
  • Assisting with final account negotiations
  • Advising clients on procurement routes (Traditional, D&B, Two-Stage etc.)
  • Contributing to clear and professional commercial advice

About You

Essential

  • Experience as an Estimator, Quantity Surveyor, or Senior QS
  • Background in consultancy or contractor environment
  • Proven experience tendering work packages
  • Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills
  • Confident communicator, comfortable engaging with clients and project teams
  • Able to work independently and take ownership of projects

Desirable (Not Essential)

  • Building services / M&E exposure
  • Experience across multiple sectors
  • Familiarity with JCT and/or NEC contracts
  • MRICS qualified or working towards chartership
