Associate Director / Director – Quantity Surveying
Shropshire | Competitive Salary + Bonus + Benefits + Potential Equity
Ref: CK3687503
With an established client base, an exciting pipeline of work and ambitious plans for the future, this is an opportunity to join a business at a pivotal stage in its journey.
The consultancy is building a strong reputation for delivering commercial and Quantity Surveying services across infrastructure, utilities, energy and renewable energy projects, working with major clients on technically challenging and commercially demanding programmes.
We are looking for someone who brings strong technical and commercial expertise, but equally importantly, the ambition, entrepreneurial mindset and leadership qualities to help grow and shape a successful consultancy business.
For the right individual, there is also the potential to secure a future shareholding in the business.
The Opportunity
Working closely with the Managing Director, you will take a leading role in developing the Quantity Surveying function, managing a small but growing team, strengthening client relationships and supporting the continued expansion of the business.
This is a hands-on leadership role, combining project delivery, commercial management, people development and business growth.
You will have the autonomy to influence how the business develops, contribute to strategic decisions and help build a team and service offering that can grow significantly over the coming years.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the Quantity Surveying and commercial management function
- Manage, mentor and develop a small team of Quantity Surveyors
- Oversee the commercial delivery of projects across infrastructure, utilities, energy and renewables
- Provide strategic commercial and contractual advice to clients
- Manage complex pre- and post-contract commissions
- Develop and strengthen existing client relationships
- Identify new business opportunities and support the growth of the consultancy
- Help shape business strategy, operational processes and future recruitment
- Ensure consistently high standards of service, commercial performance and client satisfaction
- Work closely with senior leadership to build a sustainable and successful business
About You
We are particularly interested in speaking with Quantity Surveyors who have developed their careers within a contracting environment and are now looking to move into consultancy.
You will ideally demonstrate:
- Significant Quantity Surveying and commercial management experience gained within a main contractor, specialist contractor or infrastructure contractor
- Experience across one or more of the following sectors: Infrastructure, Utilities, Energy or Renewables
- Strong contractual and commercial knowledge, ideally including NEC contracts
- Experience managing and developing a small team
- Excellent client-facing and relationship management skills
- The ability to work to demanding deadlines and manage complex commercial challenges
- Strong commercial acumen and a proactive, solutions-focused approach
- The confidence to take ownership, make decisions and contribute to business growth
- Ambition to progress beyond project delivery into a broader business leadership role
Chartered status (MRICS) would be advantageous, although relevant contractor-side experience and commercial capability will be equally important.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
This is not simply another senior Quantity Surveying position.
It is an opportunity to move from contracting into consultancy, without losing the commercial challenge and technical complexity of the projects you enjoy.
You'll be joining a business that is small enough for your contribution to make a genuine difference, but ambitious enough to offer significant long-term opportunities.
You will have:
- Direct access to the Managing Director and involvement in key business decisions
- The opportunity to help build and lead a growing team
- Exposure to major infrastructure, utilities and energy projects
- Genuine autonomy and influence over the future direction of the business
- The opportunity to develop your own client relationships and grow new service offerings
- Long-term career progression, with potential equity participation for the right individual
We are looking for someone who wants more than a job. Someone who wants to help build something, take ownership and share in the success of a growing business.
If you're an ambitious Associate Director, Director or experienced Senior/Managing Quantity Surveyor with the right background and aspirations, we'd welcome a confidential conversation.
