The Opportunity:

An Associate level Rating Surveyor  is required for a true market leading property consultancy, being part of a busy and successful regional and national team in an exciting and fast moving sector.

This is a role that offers so much variety where you will be involved in transactions from start to finish with excellent exposure to several institutional funds, developers, property companies etc.

The Role:

As a result of a period of significant growth and appointments on several new and exciting mandates, our client’s’ National Rating Team is looking for a dynamic and proactive Rating Surveyor at Associate level, to join an experienced and diverse group of professionals.

The Rating team extends to over 50 and operates across the network of offices within the UK . The team are responsible for advising on and managing client's business rates liabilities, with a focus on delivering industry leading advice and maintaining strong relationships with each client.

The role requires individuals to be qualified rating surveyors with experience in business rates advice with knowledge of the Valuation Office Agency (VOA) Check, Challenge, Appeal systems and effective ways to reduce client's exposure to business rates.

The JLL Rating team advise on a wide range of assets for a variety of different sized clients. This role will involve focus and expertise in dealing with the bulk commercial property types - Office, Retail, and Industrial properties.

The role is primarily aimed at being based within either the Birmingham or Bristol office, but other regional locations will be considered for suitable candidates matching the core skills, knowledge and requirements.

What this role involves:

  • Inspect client's properties and measure buildings accurately for the purposes of business rates valuation.
  • Check client business rate demands and refunds accurately.
  • Liaise with clients to complete VOA Requests for Rental Information Identify and action rate saving opportunities for clients.
  • Manage your diary, meetings, inspections, and any expenses efficiently and independently.
  • Manage and liaise with other company teams and other industry professionals to provide an excellent comprehensive service to the client.
  • File the necessary high-quality submissions to the VOA to challenge and reduce client's business rates liabilities where recommended.
  • Take necessary action on all forthcoming Check, Challenge and Appeal deadlines with the VOA and Valuation Tribunal
  • Understand and deliver strategies around vacancy levels within a property.
  • Schedule and attend client update meetings regularly.
  • Deliver regular and accurate client reports.
  • Contribute to achieving client and the Rating group’s financial targets.
  • Deliver excellent client service.

Knowledge & Experience

  • Up to date knowledge and experience in applying the legislation that governs business rates to make informed recommendations to clients.
  • Demonstrable technical competence in providing business rates advice to clients.
  • Basic IT skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, MS Teams).
  • Industry specific packages (e.g. Riverlake, Analyse, Experian Goad, CalcuRate).
  • Qualified Chartered Surveyor with background in commercial practice surveying within either a corporate, public sector or private practice.
  • Likely to possess 2 years plus post-qualification experience working in a Rating team.
  • Able to build and maintain client relationships.
  • Build and maintain relationships with other parts of the wider company team.
  • Be able to recognise opportunities for selling additional services to clients, including cross selling.
  • Able to work as part of a team, supporting other team members and recognising the work of others.
  • Be articulate, professional, and persuasive with a good telephone manner and good report writing skills.
  • Good client and internal presentation skills.
